The Jazz Standards workshop is part of a larger series of jazz education workshops and classes offered by the New York Jazz Workshop. This particular class focuses on strengthening the ability to play on standard jazz forms. Students will work through a variety of jazz standard tunes exploring various ways to approach them and play over the changes.
Tunes played will included pieces from Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and many others.
The students of this class together with the students of the other jazz workshop classes will perform at Smalls periodically.
